About Me
Hi! I'm William, a full time private tutor with over 15 years of experience in tutoring secondary school students from mainstream, international schools and tutorial centre settings. My teaching journey started as a teaching assistant and after school maths class tutor at a local school. Then I decided to transfer my skills to tutorial centres, which allowed me to instruct classes in a more tailored and efficient manner. Through years of experience, I have become pragmatically equipped in teaching not only various international syllabus, but also in advanced mathematics entrance exams for Oxford (MAT), Cambridge (STEP), Imperial College London and my alma mater LSE (TMUA) successfully. If you wish to enquire more, please do not hesitate to contact me!
My Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is built on a simple but powerful belief — your potential is not a fixed point, but a horizon to be pursued. You will not simply learn formulas, you will learn to think. I specialise in curating challenging, non-routine problems — the kind you will face on your university entrance exam — that push beyond the comfort of textbook examples.
My role is not to give you the answers, but to be your strategic guide, equipping you with the problem-solving tools and resilient mindset to dissect complex problems yourself. We will celebrate the struggle, because it is in that process of grappling with difficulty that you will not only master mathematics, but truly excel, discovering a capacity for deep, analytical thought that will define your success both in the exam and in the academic challenges that lie beyond.
Interest and hobbies that I integrate to lessons
In my free time, I enjoy deciphering puzzles and learn new tactics to battles others in chess games. This is all thanks to building my understanding in maths and logical reasoning.
I also understand in importance of decompressing as studying can get strenuous. That is why I have pet cats, a daily cup of coffee and tea to help me clear my mind before writing more intriguing questions.
